Milo

^^ Osup!

Find this ads quite cute and interesting. The people representing the milo trying to squeeze themselves into the green mini which resembles the small green sachet of milo.

The 2 lines underneath the ads read:

NOTHING IS AS JAM-PACKED AS THE NEW MILO FUZE
It’s amazing just how much Milo we’ve packed into each small sachet, to give you more of the milo taste you love.

I bet you have seen this ads recently. It has become the word of mouth for their bold concept of the ads, in both the newspapers and TV ads. They even managed to attract the “attention” from Wanita MCA and SKMM.  However, I wonder if this kinda attention is good.

Yes, no doubt it has created the awareness among us (not only to the gen X and gen Y, even the baby boomers also talked about it) but would this kinda controversial ads affect the branding of the company? Furthermore, in our country, there are a lot of restrictions and rigid guidelines that we need to comply when it comes to ads.

Does it worth spending the money in this kinda ads production? I will think twice especially in the industry that I am working in. No matter what, we are still advertising in Malaysia. Rules are rules, sometimes we have to follow without much choice. Rite?

Production of print ads, radio ads and TV commercials might be common for you. But what about production of cinema ads? If you have not come across about this production before, perhaps this might give you some clues on how to start with. The followings are based on the production of animation cinema ads (as the steps might be slightly different for those that involve shootings).

  1. Engage a creative agency to develop ideas and storyboard for the ads.
  2. Convert the storyboard into animation.
  3. Convert the mpeg file into Digital Betacam/ DAT mode / mod format for Cinegraphic Transfer and sound mixing (Cinegraphic Transfer are conversion of Digital Betacam into 35mm film reels).
  4. Develop a check print for internal approval (only one (1) check print film reel is required as it is quite costly).
  5. Upon internal approval, submit the check print for Censorship approval. Approval will requires approximately 2-3 weeks.
  6. Once approved, Censorboard will issued Cert A and Cert B. (Only one (1) Cert A is required for each creative ads concept / storyboard. It is an approval for the storyboard to ensure that there is no inappropriate elements in the ads. The quantity of Cert B  issued is depending on the quantity of the filmlets bulk prints. For example, the total filmlets produced are six (6) units, then six (6) Cert B will be issued. The Cert B is the license which will be pasted on each film reels).
  7. Proceed for production of bulk printing (Bulk print can only commence after Cert A has been issued by Censorboard).

Basically, these are some of the basic steps involved for the production of an animation cinema ads.
